Just before 1:00am this morning a widespread earth tremor lasting between 5 and 15 seconds was felt across many parts of the UK.
This registered 4.7 on the Richter scale and caused many homes, furniture and fittings to shake and rattle.
The epicentre of the quake was 30 miles south of Kingston Upon Hull. No serious damage has been reported. 4.7 is very rare for the United Kingdom. Some small after shocks and tremors may also be experienced.
The cause has yet to be identified.
Update: Upgraded by the British Geological Survey to a Richter 5.3 earthquake.
